Mystic, Connecticut was historically a leading seaport of the area and is located on the Mystic River which flows into Long Island Sound providing access to the sea. The town is famous for Mystic Seaport which is the world's largest maritime museum which houses and preserves a number of sailing ships and seaport buildings. The town is also home to the Mystic Aquarium and is the last state for exploration. In 1988 the film "Mystic Pizza" got its name from a famous restaurant in Mystic which is still open and popular with tourists with parts of the movie shot there and nearby towns. Also in 1997, the director Steven Spielberg shot scenes from the movie "Amistad" at the Mystic Seaport.
Mystic's bandstand is strategically located in Olde Mistick Village which is a mall having 40 quaint shops which feature many unique items from around the world in a setting of the early American charm and beauty of the 1700s. The bandstand is just known as "The Gazebo" and was built in 1972 by the construction company who built the mall by mall construction money set aside. It is the first Mystic has had and is an open air structure which is the venue for village events and other concerts.
