HYANNIS MA

HYANNIS MA
Hyannis Town Hall Green
Built - 1999

Hyannis is located on the southern coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and is named after a 17th century Indian chief. The town is a very popular summer beach and yachting resort with ferryboat services to Nantucket Island and Martha's Vineyard. It is also one of the Cape's busiest business centers and a shipping point for fish and cranberries. The town is also known as the location where the family home of the late President John F. Kennedy is located in nearby Hyannisport.
This popular bustling town started its bandstand project in 1998 and completed the Greek Revival structure a year later in 1999. The town now had a stage area for concerts and other community events with the structure being funded by donations from its citizens and town finances. A nice dedication was held upon completion whereby the chief fund-raisers were honored. The town previously had just an existing platform on its Town Hall Green but the new roof added gave it its character.
The Hyannis Town Band is the chief user but the Air Force Jazz Band has also performed there along with the local Barnstable High School Band to the delight of crowds of people enjoying the concerts and the spacious town green.
