SKANEATLES NY
Chase Memorial Bandstand
Thayer Park
Built - 1982

Skaneatles is a village in Onondaga County, New York just 20 miles southwest of Syracuse, New York. It was settled in the 1790s after the Finger Lakes region was found to have a multitude of water power which made the area quite attractive. Also once roads and bridges were built, and a stagecoach line ran through the area was developed, the town became quite accessible. A number of mansions were built on the shores of the beautiful lake the town is built next to as a retreat for wealthy entrepreneurs in the mid 1800s with many still standing today.
Thus for more than 2 centuries, Skaneatles has attracted millions of visitors to the town and the Finger Lakes Region after the advent of excursion boats came into play in the early 1800s which was the first instance of commercial tourism and recreation in the Lakes Region.
The town's Chase Memorial Bandstand was built in Thayer Park in 1982 and is the first one the town has had. It was built by David Lee Company from Skaneatles as a new venue for the special Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1983 and a large number of concerts and community activities since. The structure is the home for the Skaneatles Community Band who play on Friday nights during the summer months. The bandstand is also used for graduation ceremonies each year as well as other community functions and photo opportunities. The structure has the special feature of having public restrooms in the basement level. The bandstand was built with private donations.

This is a beautiful place to sit and watch a show and head across the street for a nice dinner. Good luck finding a place to park though in the summer, lots of people have uncovered this little secret in central New York.
